Food and Nutrition

We are all aware of the huge importance of good nutrition in terms of your child's health and the nursery prides itself in the quality of the food. Our aim is to give your child the very best start.
Our five weekly menus are changed seasonally and prepared in consultation with a dietician to ensure that all our children get the most out of each meal nutritionally. Freshly cooked on-site by our own cooks, all of our mouth watering meals use locally sourced produce where possible - without any salt, limiting sugar whilst using home-baked wholemeal bread and incorporating at least five servings of fruit and vegetables each day.
We follow the recommendations of the Caroline Walker Trust, a charitable organisation focusing on research in child nutrition, and recognise that nursery aged children require meals rich in starchy foods to provide energy and foods such as meat and fish to provide important nutrients such as protein, iron and zinc.
We also place a large emphasis on snacks between meals, using them as a chance to "top-up" nutrients which children are often deficient in. Snack times, in the morning and afternoon, give children the opportunity to make decisions over what healthy snacks they eat.
We understand that at nursery age, children are much more likely to try more foods, although this will change very quickly as they grow up. Treating meal times as a social occasion, children get the opportunity to improve their social development whilst developing concepts such as table manners and trying new foods. Parents are often amazed at what their "fussy eaters" will eat when in the company of their peers at nursery.
A vegetarian alternative is always available and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Your child will be actively encouraged to try everything but will there will always be the option for something different if they genuinely dislike something.

Babies Meals
Where appropriate baby meals are modified versions of the older children's meal and are blended/mashed as required. Babies moving onto solids and weaning are offered foods such as stewed fruit, pureed vegetables or baby cereals and are gradually introduced to other flavours in close liaison with parents.
Because variations exist babies have their own menus which you can view by selecting the option on the left.
